Vice President / Insurance and Advanced Planning

Zachary A. Meissner, CFP®, MSFS, ChFC®, CLU®, RICP®

zmeissner@pcrg.com

Zach was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and attended the University of Washington Foster School of Business for his undergraduate education.  He joined Pacific Capital Resource Group in 2008 and currently serves as Vice President. Zach holds a number of designations for demonstrating in-depth knowledge of complex planning issues including the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®), and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERTM Professional (CFP®). He is a “30 under 30: Millennials in the financial and insurance industries” as selected by LifeHealthPRO Magazine.

Areas of Specialization & Philosophy

Zach’s practice predominantly focuses on serving the needs of affluent business owners through a holistic planning approach that includes tax mitigation, business transition and succession, executive compensation, retirement planning, estate planning, and high net-worth risk management. “Business planning” typically focuses on planning for the employee group through tools such as retirement plans and group benefits; but more often than not, specialized planning for the ownership group is not given the attention it deserves. Many business owners know they eventually need to reap value from the business either along the way or upon eventual sale of the business. Most do not have a plan in place for how best to go about doing this in the most tax efficient manner possible.

Zach works with these business owners focusing primarily on the ability of the owner to extract maximum value from their company through intelligent financial design. Many small business owners spend the majority of time improving the operations side of their company, without ensuring that the financial aspects of things are well structured. This often leaves them exposed to unforeseen risks or leaves them paying more than their fair share in taxes.

With the role of leading Pacific Capital Resource Group’s advanced planning group, Zach’s team focuses on delivering business planning services at the highest tier of knowledge, experience, and service. Comprehensive planning areas include:

  • Advanced tax efficient wealth building strategies (your 401k is not going to cut it)
  • Executive benefit planning (selecting and rewarding key employees)
  • Business transition and estate plan unification
  • Risk management & premium finance (have the bank pay your insurance premiums)
  • Business valuation & determining what sale value is necessary for retirement

 Personal Interests

Zach has remained active for over a decade with his collegiate fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon, serving in a mentorship role for undergraduates on the alumni board.  He is also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Washington and the University of Washington Alumni Association.  Zach pursues a number of other passions, most notably music production, skiing, reading and writing, cheering on the Seahawks and UW Huskies, and adventuring about the world. He is a proud member of the Fred Hutch Innovator’s Network.

Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board's initial and ongoing certification requirements.

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

I would sponsor a wing at a local animal shelter. I would buy myself a 30-day cruise to somewhere warm. I would hire a personal trainer and chef for after the 30-day cruise.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

With my husband, friends, or family cheering on the local sports team (preferably the Arizona Coyotes).

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

Live on the beach and spend my days snorkeling and starring at the beautiful turquoise waters.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

I’d wish that I had photographic memory, the ability to speak any language, and that my husband would learn how to be handy.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

Take more photos, write in a journal, and cherish every day.

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

If I had to ‘spend’ the money and couldn’t save any of it, I would buy a boat, a muscle car, and waterfront vacation property free and clear.

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

On a Saturday, you will undoubtedly find me surrounded by our close friends and family. The activity itself might change, but the company rarely does.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

I lean slightly to the mountains due to my love for hiking, but my fiancée is so in love with the beach, I am tilted by the old adage, ‘Happy Wife, Happy Life.”

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

Ability to shapeshift.  Ability to teleportation.  Ability to time travel.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

Focus your efforts on loving yourself. Someone that cares for their mind, body, and wealth is always more at peace, and ultimately, better positioned to care for others.

Learn More About Me

If you had a million dollars to spend, what would be the first three things you would buy?

  1. Complete our house remodel/yard projects
  2. Set up a fund that would generate enough income/interest to pay for an awesome month-long vacation every year
  3. Hire a personal chef to cook organic, health food for every meal!

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

At home with my family.  Movie night!

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

I love to relax and read a book on the beach.  It doesn't need to be a warm climate.  I love the relaxing sound of the waves.

Imagine being approached by a genie who offers you three wishes. What might those wishes be?

  1. Perfect health for my family.
  2. That my children grow up to be successful, caring, and contributing members of society.
  3. An end to child/human trafficking.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

All of your hard work and studying will pay off.  Never stop exercising and staying active.

Learn More About Me

What’s the most likely place people could find you on a Saturday night?

Either at my kids’ hockey or soccer games or at home in front of a TV watching college football.

Which would you pick: Living on the beach or living near the mountains?

The Bay of Kotor in Montenegro combines the best of both – mountains and beach life all rolled into one, set against a magnificent landscape.

If you had the ability to travel back in time, what’s something you would tell your 18-year-old self?

Physical fitness is the foundation for not only physical health but also mental health.  Travel the world starting now.  There is so much to see and only some much time to see it.  Traveling showed me that those with so few material items are often the happiest.  We don’t have the monopoly on the best way to do things.  Lastly, it makes me appreciate so many of the things that I take for granted at home.  Book your ticket!
